So I have a relatively old road bicycle, with mostly Shimano 105 parts from the early 90's. I just recently moved, so this is probably why it broke. When I use the front brake lever, they go all the way down to the bar (aka, not a lot of tension). Then I noticed the front brakes engage, but they don't release. I have to pull them off the rim by hand. I've been trying to find a diagram of brake levers to confirm that there is a spring in the lever, but I can't find one. Can someone help me out... I’ve seen a lot of videos that try to teach how to drive stick shift, and most do a decent job, but I haven’t seen any that actually show what is happening in the drivetrain. I feel that understanding this theory would allow learners to see why things should be done a certain way, to minimize wear on the car and to prevent bad habits from forming. It would also lead to faster learning on the practical side, since you know what’s happening when you feel the car do something. So here is my attempt... mid-15c., "instrument for crushing or pounding," from Middle Dutch braeke "flax brake," from breken "to break" (see break (v.)). The word was applied to many crushing implements, especially the tool for breaking up the woody part of flax to loosen the fibers. It also was applied to the ring through the nose of a draught ox. It was influenced in sense by Old French brac, a form of bras "an arm," thus the sense "a lever or handle," which was being used in English from late 14c., and "a bridle or curb" (early 15c.). One or the other sense or a convergence of all of them yielded the main modern meaning "mechanical device for arresting the motion of a wheel," which is attested by 1772. I bought my first new road bike nine months ago, and as I came to rely on it for day-to-day transportation, I started to look for books to teach myself the art of bike maintenance. Who wants to pay somebody fifty bucks for something you can do yourself with a little bit of education and a few simple tools? I checked out several different books, looked around for others' opinions, and came to the conclusion that [*Zinn & The Art of Road Bike Maintenance*](http://www.amazon.com/Zinn-Art-Road-B... The two wheel velocipedes, the bicycles as they are styled, are intended for the male sex only, and are by far the swiftest machines. ["Supplement to the Courant," Hartford, Conn., Dec. 16, 1868]. Is there a handy guide somewhere to simplifying the selection of a frame and components or complete bicycles? Doctor Marcum’s Junkyard was a thirty acre treasure trove of imagination that could keep us busy for hours and entertain our curious minds until the call for supper. Doctor Marcum was entertaining enough - more so by the fact that he wasn’t really a doctor at all but the moniker had stuck because he could “heal” any vehicle that coughed, sputtered, vib...
