Hello everyone! Completely new to bass, I might be asking tons of questions in the near future so figured a small introduction was in order. I recently decided to pick up the bass due to a more musically inclined friend had me try out the Rocksmith cable which was very fun. I'm 38 with no previous experience with any instruments or making music in general, I do not expect to become even a little proficient in playing any time soon but I'm in no rush (doing it more as a tinkering self focus/s...

I recently re-discovered my old Replifex processor and hooked it up for the fun of it to my existing mono setup. I ended up loving it and found some of the effects to be very useful. I would like to expand my mono setup to stereo and I'm kind of lost as to how to accomplish this, giving my current equipment. My pedaboard has a input and loop section, the input contains a compressor, wah, so on, and the loop section is the volume control and delays/verbs. I'd like to keep this configuration as i...

I'm slowly building a very basic distortion pedal from the ground up, trying to learn some basic electronics as I go. I'm a programmer by trade, so my electronics skill level compared to learning how to bake, is like knowing where the kitchen is. I have a basic gain stage as shown in the diagram, with a gain of 11 and a power supply of +9V DC.

**Intro** This is going to be an exploration of what happens to an audio signal when it goes into a guitar amp. What changes from the source to the final result. I’m not going to touch on how guitar amps work. Instead, focusing more on the end result generally. This comes as a result of me messing around with stuff as I was recording and I found the results very interesting. I believe I will touch on areas of physics and math – of which I am no expert, so I welcome any and all feedback a...

Does anyone know of software to keep electrical components inventory? I've been using a spreadsheet but it's getting overwhelming, but that's also partly because I try to think too far ahead with builds lol. I'm not a professional, I just like the idea of recording my stock of each component, not only to help facilitate bulk orders but also retain info about each component, i.e. op amp slew rates, pin assignments, etc. Also, keeping track of projects, PCB diagrams, parts lists, etc. Basically w...

Dear Redditors, I'm looking for suggestions for guitar amp/effects suitable for an apartment dweller who must keep the volume down. What I would like is a small traditional amp, some quality wireless headphones, effects pedals, and whatever interface I need for the computer to record. Also, something to mix in mp3 music with my guitar in order to play along. I've been out of the loop for a long time (7 years now) so I'm not really clued in to the current technology. I do love effects pedals an...

Question for you guys. I'm ordering a new volume pedal to use for swells instead of the volume knob on my guitar. Should I put it before or after my compressor? My thought process is that currently my volume KNOB comes before the compressor, so logically the volume PEDAL should also come before the compressor. But a lot of diagrams I've seen online say that the compressor should come before volume. I realize this is all subjective and no matter what anyone says, I get to do it however I want. ...

December 17, 2020 - Guitar pedal order is very important. It can make or break the perfect tone if not done right. These are the rules for perfect pedal alignment!

This looks like a clean, thorough DIY pedalboard job, complete with a power strip fixed to the riser on the board's back panel. While I'm not completely sure the board itself (looks like a semi-professional wood-working job) is a homemade outfit, the power strip is clearly an add-on, and super handy if you're dealing with multiple, individual power supplies or adapters.

November 28, 2018 - Let's take a minute and talk about how to properly arrange guitar pedals. Believe it or not, pedal order really does matter.

It's smoother, fuller, and sounds more like a warm tube-driven preamp than the SD-1. Yes, the Blues Driver is more expensive, but in a one-to-one comparison we think it's worth the upgrade. The Boss SD-1 is a better option than the DS-1, but comes in second to the BD-2. Flickr Commons image via Shixart1985.

I am a novice pedal builder just dipping my toe into pedal making, and decided to tackle a Landtone Klon Klone from Guitar Pedal Parts. The build actually went well, soldering wasn't as difficult as I thought and although the instructions that came in the mail were terrible, I found some good guides online. Once assembled, it worked fine with a 9v battery but wouldn't work on DC power, so I ordered a bag of new DC power jacks, replaced the jack with a new one, and the pedal worked! Hooray, I fix...

I want to build a pedal with dual mono inputs and dual mono outputs that allows me to silence two guitar amps simultaneously with both a momentary switch and a latching switch. Although this may be a relatively simple design, I can't find an exact schematic or diagram for a pedal like this online. This would be my first build where I am not following some pre laid out diagram, and I'd like to make sure I understand how it works so I can learn along with the build, and make sure I have everything...

The RockBoard TRES 3.1 is a really high-quality 'board, too - it's neat, configurable, and affordable. It comes with a soft case with a shoulder strap, but you can spend an extra $60 for a flight case. It'll mount up to 10 pedals, and the height of the pedalboard is easily adjusted to make room for mounting a pedalboard power supply underneath. ...

A decent quality snare is one of the most important drum parts, as it produces a diverse array of tone and forms the center of the musician's set up. The snare is a shallow drum, that sits between the legs of the drummer whilst they play. The shell is usually made from metal or wood, with a depth of 6" and a diameter of around 12".

Hey r/guitar, I am a fairly frequent visitor here and thought you guys would appreciate the upgrades I've recently finished on my 2012 Mexican strat. **Pre-warning, this is an extremely long post.** TL;DR: I put some new bits on my MIM stratocaster, it made a huge different, hooray! I bought a 2010 Fender FSR HH in copper metallic burst and posted it here - about three weeks after I bought it, the bridge was ... sitting wrong. Not only floating, but floating at a strange angle. Just purchased 3 rather expensive Planet Waves guitar cables online (these: http://www.thomann.de/be/planet_waves_pwag15_instrumentenkabel.htm). They keep falling out of jacks though. On my Telecaster for example, they seem to plug in OK, but they don't "click", and they wriggle out of the jack easily. All my other cables work fine. The cables have the same problem on the other end, plugging into audio interfaces or pedals. For a popular and high-quality brand, I can't make sense of it. Did I...

"The guitar that people really notice the most is my favorite electric guitar that I own, which is a 1960 - I always thought for years it was a '59 but it turns out it's an early 1960 Fender Jazzmaster that I bought in 1995 from Mike Watt when I was on tour with him. It was once black.

Here is a great way to add versatility to your pedals. Switching the order of your effects can sometimes give the subtle (or not so subtle) differences that you may want to have access to with a push of a button. It uses a 4PDT footswitch and has LED indicators to show which order you are using.
