As I tinker with the design, I decide to add a few little flairs of my own. I'll give the handle an oval cross section for a better grip. The sword was comfortable, but the round grip meant I had to watch to make sure I was cutting, not paddling. This should be much better. The edge should be broad and light. I'm fighting soft targets, so I really don't ne...
So for my machine design class, we are asked to determine the degrees of freedom of the following structure. https://imgur.com/a/faDXb We must use the method of finding the equilibrium equations, and subtracting the # of equations from the # of unknowns. We cannot use any other method. I have physically built the apparatus and can observe that there is 0 degrees of freedom. When I try doing a force balance, for some reason I keep getting 2 degrees of freedom. My work is shown below. h...

The human body is one complex network, universally accepted as the most intriguing construct. It is certainly the most widely studied structure the world over. Undermentioned are little- and well-known facts about the human body. The diagram below shows the ropes between the tanker and the tugs cut creating free body diagrams (FBDs) for the tanker, tugs and a section of the rope between them. For the FBDs of the tanker and tugs the tension force acts as an external force. For the FBDs of the sections of rope, which are assumed to be light and inextensible, the tension ...

In this case, place a squiggly line through the original vector to show that it is no longer in play—it has been replaced by its x – and y -components. Here is the link to the problem (image 3) as well as my work (img 1 and 2). https://imgur.com/a/U8wm1fK I got the answers correct, I just want to understand basically why in situation 1 static friction from block A doesn't affect block B and why block A has static friction to the right, there doesn't seem to be an equal opposite force the way I wrote this. Thank you!
Free body diagrams only show the forces exerted on the body, not forces the body is exerting. The drive wheels on the robot exerts a force in the negative direction (left) on the ground. The ground then exerts an opposite and opposing force on the wheel via in the positive direction (right). If you have a table with frictionless pulleys on 2 edges and have a spring scale in the middle, tie both ends to 5g weights and hand let both 5g weights off the side of the table what would the spring scale read?
I am having two problems with these two questions. The first problem I have is with question one and the coordinate system and y pointing down. Does this mean I have to draw tension pointing down in the string, below the pulley, instead of up? And the second question it asks to write F*_net_* =ma for each object. Is there a way to find mass. It isn't given so I can't figure out how to solve with only one variable, a. I was just going to make up a mass. http://imgur.com/Ai5fh2h Thanks

Hi friends have a basic physics question I'm having trouble understanding. So the situation is that there is a truck accelerating to the right, and there is a box on the truck that isn't moving. If I were to draw a free body diagram for just the box, there would be the normal force, weight force, and the static friction force pointing to the right that is preventing the box from moving. The box isn't accelerating since it's not moving, so what force am I missing that is pointing to the left?

http://imgur.com/7QCsMzN I know what changes I should make to the labels and directions of the forces acting on the blocks, but I'm unsure of what changes I should make to the magnitudes of the forces. All of the blocks "move as one," and that one of the blocks is "moving to the right" (does not specify whether it's accelerating or not), so I'm having difficult finding whether the system is accelerating or not (and therefore whether they have a net force acting on them to the right). I spoke wi...

Consider the following problem: > A passenger P of mass m = 72.2 kg is riding in an elevator while standing on a platform scale ([Fig. 3-19a](https://i.imgur.com/JrqImLD.png), which is essentially a calibrated spring scale that reads the upward force F\_(PS) exerted on the passenger by the scale. Free Body Diagrams are used to solve problems in Mechanics. The sketch of an object with all the surrounding objects stripped away and all of the forces acting on the body is shown is called a free body diagram. It helps to solve and analyses the questions involving the forces.
4.3.2 Draw a free-body diagram showing ALL forces acting on the box while moving from B to C. Free body diagrams (otherwise known as FBD's) are simplified representations in a problem of an object (the body), and the force vectors acting on it.This body is free because the diagram will show it without its surroundings; i.e. the body is 'free' of its environment.
How can I construct the free body diagram of this figure? I am in a topic of equilibrium of particles so the total force will be equal to zero. The two springs are indicated to give equal forces. Am I correct that I need to add the masses of the blocks and then I will make an FBD together with two spring forces?
